The near future. Human society has all but been destroyed, with ragtag bands of survivors existing amongst the ruins and trying to escape the attention of the Gods and their Followers. The Gods came to Earth several years ago, offering to help makind with their incredible powers, and for a time it seemed the planet had its own protectors - but the Gods wanted humanity to bow down before them and accept them as their rulers.
